Remember that? No problems with heat or expansion and other pluses. Probably too expensive or too many engineering problems. It is rumored that BMW will use magnesium blocks in their next 3 series and the next thing they will roll out is electromagnetically activated valves. That could be the best thing in a long time. No camshafts and the related gear to worry about, just more electronics to worry about though. The big plus is that you could have infinite valve timing, totally variable for any situation, how great would that be. The problems they are having is that it requires a lot of current to run the magnets and the valves slam shut instead of closing gradually. I am pretty sure they will work that out, but who knows, it might end up in the same pile as the turbine engine (for cars anyway).
