Hello, everyone. I am looking to purchase a decent euphonium sometime in the near future and I'm needing some recommendations. I've had the most experience with a 4-valve Besson, with which I have been extremely satisfied. I love the placement of the 4th valve, not to mention it was one of the first compensating horns out there. I am not really looking for a professional instrument, but I would like to get something fairly nice. I can buy the ideal horn new for a little over $4,000...ouch.
I've looked on eBay and found some very good potentials, but I don't really know what type of quality can be had for so little money. The main thing I am concerned about is tone, sound, and the 4th valve. I've played a couple of Yamahas with the 4th valve placed beside the other valves and that would be fine, too. If we're going to get picky, I would like a silver euphonium that looks new, sounds new, and is inexpensive. I somewhat doubt that's really feasible, so I may have to compromise on the physical appearance.
As a point of reference, this horn won't really be used for performing. I just want something to play around on at home, possibly play for a few family and friends, and get back into the groove that I fell out of last year.
If any of you might have any suggestions, comments, or questions, please feel free to let me know. Thanks in advance for any input and/or feedback...I appreciate it! Drive safely, and KEEP ON SAABING!!!
