Hi Chris,
I lived in Mpls/St.Paul for 12 years. Went to U of Mn. Graduated and left for Michigan (where I am currently). I'm sure things have changed quite a bit since I left (I left 3 days after the Mall of America opened. Bummer!)
Here are the pros and cons of the city (area):
Pros:
No sales tax on clothing (At least I think it still is)
Extremely clean city
Great outdoors activity (Land of 10,000 lakes)
Great shopping
Lots of culture & things to do
Not too bad of a traffic (At least last time I was there)
Cons:
Weather (Cold and snow in winter, make that loooonnng winter, and hot and humid and rather windy summer) - You'll actually think that sunny 45F is warm after the long and cold winter. You'll see in U of Mn campus that kids will actually wear shorts when it gets up to 45F in the spring. (I did it.)
Land of 10,000 mosquitos per capita
Everyone drives slooooow
If you can withstand the winter and don't mind donating some blood to the bugs in summer, and you obey highway speed limit (55 mph), then you will LOVE Minni Apple! Oh by the way, don't ever think that Vikings will win a superbowl. Twins have better chance winning world series. We'll see about the t'wolves. HA (I'm still Minnesota fan. I still can't get excited about Detroit teams, even though Pistons and Wings won championships.)
Oh, store away your Z for the winter. Cars don't last long in the Minnesota salty winter.
Good Luck!
