OT - Thursday nights in Depot Town....

Anyone visiting (or resident in) the Detroit area should checkout the Thursday night cars shows in the Depot Town area of Ypsilanti, MI. A well organized yet imprompto gathering of "Show What You Drove" happens weekly during the summer months. It is always an eclectric mixture of Hot Rods, Muscle Cars, Antiques, Classics, Exotics, Customs, Old Show Cars (courtesy of proximity to Auto makers storage facilities maybe?) and the just plain odd. Last night was no exception, notable examples included:
A 1983 Aston Martin Lagonda. If ever a car screamed to be relieved of its period correct wheels/tires and reshod with larger diameter/low profile pieces, it is this particular model. The Lagonda body is still beautiful 25+ years after its initial release.
A 2005/06? Lotus Elise. Since this car carried Georgia plates, it must have been there courtesy of either Automobile or Car & Driver magazine, both of which are head-quartered just up the road in Ann Arbor. If you hasven't seen one of these, picture a Go-cart with a roadster body.
A late 60's Mustang convertible. Not too different until you look at the top and see that it is not fabric, but a factory installed folding hardtop very similar to the Ford Starliner. From the placard on the car, it was one of 9 survivors from a build of only 18 cars.
A heavily customized Willys Coupe complete with blown Hemi motor, and an Ex-NASCAR Plymouth from the 60's. The owners drove each of these to the show on public roads!
Alas, the only Saabs were parked in the visitor's area.
