I bought a black 1979 Trans-Am with the T/A 6.6 engine new in '79. This designation was for the Hi-Po Pontiac engine coupled to a close ratio 4 speed manual - actually a 1978 hold over engine - not the Oldmobile station wagon engine coupled to an automatic. I got stopped numerous times by small town police for one of two reasons: 1) the officer was a fresh recruit and just wanted to see the car, or 2) they had reports from the previous night(s) regarding a black Trans-Am raising hell in town and out-running the city owned Impala police cruisers.
A uncommon or memorable car does have its disadvantages. Never received a ticket but I spent more than my fair share of time being the victim of 20 minute traffic stops.
