Hey Motorbike!
I'm surprised nobody chimed in here!? I sure don't know, 'cuz my two C900s use motor oil in their manual trannies & the newer one is an AT. Do a search over on the C900 BB & you should find lots of debates on what to use. Did you find a C900? If so, I feel you should use motor oil rather than gear oil. (If I were to ever use gear oil again, I'd pick either Mobil 1 gear oil or BG Syncro Shift II.)
As for motor oil, I'd agree that the Saab 5W-30 is most likely a Grp3 product. They recently reformulated this oil (well, at least the version they sell in the US) from an ACEA A3/B3 gas/diesel rating to an ACEA A1 gas-only rating. I'm currently running Delvac 1300 15W-40 in both C900s' engines (for their A-Rx rinse phases), & will change them over to M1 5W-40 in the fall. I'll change their tranny oil fills at that time too, dumping the 15W-40 from both (it was a little too stiff last winter) & refilling with Shell's Group III Rotella Syn 5W-40.
