Insurance Question - Hit & Run - I have Allstate Posted by Randy Thatcher [Email] (#22) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Randy Thatcher) on Mon, 2 Aug 2004 18:28:45 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I just got allstate as it was a good bit less expensive than my old insurance. Well, 1 month into the policy, some idiot hit my parked car and ran...
I'm in California, in case that matters. I was at a concert and when I got back to car someone hit the front bumper skin and turn signal. Luckily the hood, fender, headlight, and side bumper trim was all OK. This was ALL redone 6 months ago because someone else did the same thing to my parked car, but they owned up to it.
So I have no idea who did it, only when and where the accident occured. Does this come under comprehensive or collision? I have uninsured motorist coverage, but my policy seems to indicate I need the driver or vehicle info for the other driver in that case. Maybe I'm reading that wrong...
My deductibles are $500 (coll) & $250 (comp)
I'm thinking I can get a used turn signal for cheap. I may be able to get a used bumper skin (or perhaps new?) and get it painted for a reasonable rate. I figure I'll bring the skin and the 2 side pieces to a shop. I'll mount it all back up myself.
The whole thing is a balancing act of what deductible applies here, will rates go up, and how much can I do the job for if I'm paying for used parts and professional painting...
Any advice before I call my agent?
Am I an idiot for getting Allstate? What do I need to watch out for?
Randy
