A couple of suggestions:
The dealer where it's been serviced can give you a printout of all the work that's been done on the car. Using the VIN, any dealer can give you a printout of the warranty work that's been done.
The owner can probably give you the phone number of the shop that did the service. If it has some previous history unknown to the current owner, SAAB USA can get the dealer's phone number from the dealership number where the service was done.
Talking to the service writer can give you a good idea of how the car was maintained. One time I was looking seriously at a Viggen, and the owner wouldn't give the dealership permission to talk to me about the car. I ran away from that deal, and the car ultimately proved to have major problems.
When you're talking to the shop, ask them right out, "Would you buy this car?" Most will give you an honest answer.
Good luck!
Dave
