Chris Rogers at SAABNET suggested I post my questions here. Since this is the first post on any bulletin board I have ever done, I hope this works.
My vehicle is a 2000 SAAB 9-3 2.0T. It is my first SAAB, I bought it pre-owned and would like to take it to 250K miles. I have a couple questions concerning performance tuning and would appreciate any advice anyone could give or reference anyone could make. My tuning knowledge/experience is with Small Blocks and I am enjoying learning about 4 cyl turbocharged engines, but help does not seem to be on every corner like the Small Block.
1. I would like a reference to a shop and mechanic in the Eastern US that has experience performance tuning a SAAB engine, including basic machine shop work, balancing and blueprinting and porting and polishing heads, etc. I am familiar with Abbot Racing in Wix, UK, who is quite knowledgeable about SAAB performance and very good about answering email questions and has a good set of products, and with Group 9 Performance who also seems to have a machine shop operation in Southern California and a range of products.
2. Has anyone had experience engine and/or transmission swapping in SAABs. Would a newer version SAAB engine/transmission swap into my chassis. The newer aluminum blocks and six speed transmissions look interesting. Is there a Hondata equivalent for SAAB that has ecu (Trionic) mappings available?
3. Finally, has anyone inquired of Chilton, etc. how much they would want to produce a SAAB manual. I understand that SAAB is not a high volume vehicle and a publisher would probably want to be paid to produce a repair manual but I am frustrated like any other SAAB enthusiast I have talked to about the dearth of routine maintenance/repair data available. The dealer service departments in our area are very good about sharing information, but I would find a Chilton type manual extremely useful, and there are enough SAAB organizations out there that it seems that some amount of funding could be forthcoming to persuade a publisher to compile one.
Many thanks.
