Tech 2 question (kinda long...please read tho!).... Posted by turrbo [Email] (#8) [Profile/Gallery] (more from turrbo) on Sun, 15 Aug 2004 23:20:09 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
My indy actually asked me about this....He has a car (OG9-3) that had its radio stolen. The owner did not want to pay for a new unit, so they found a used one. The junkyard told my indy that the radio had been divorced from the wrecked 9-3. When he gets it into the car, he discovers that it had not been divorced as he was told.
The junkyard informs him that he will not accept electronics as a return, but gives my indy the VIN of the wrecked 9-3.
My indy found out somewhere that it is possible to (with the Tech 2) remotely divorce a headunit from a car. Here's how he says its possible:
-Input the VIN of the wrecked car into the Tech 2 so that it believes that it is connected to the wrecked car
-Install radio into car, divorce it.
-Change the VIN setting in the Tech 2 to that of the non-wrecked car
-Marry the headunit to the car
Problem is, he cannot figure out how to do that. I even played around with the Tech 2 and I didn't see anyplace that you could trick the unit into believing that it was connected to a different car. (ie change the VIN).
Someone with a Tech 2, or anyone, do you know if this is possible? Any ideas on how to do it, or how to remotely divorce a headunit?
Thanks so much for reading this babbling and long-winded message, but it is 2 in the morning here so I hope it makes sense!
