*Sorry Scott if this would qualify for "other cars"*
So pulling into the harbour the other day, the boat engine goes clunk clunk and dies. Appears to be the timing belt broke. Pull boat out, yadda, yadda, take to shop, and the diagnosis is bent valves. Pistons, etc. seem to be okay according to the shop. Can be fixed for about $2K.
This is an older Imperial with a Volvo Penta Sterndrive DOHC engine (AQ171A). I was wondering if anyone came across a similar issue, and basically trying to determine my options. Could only the valves be damaged, without effect to the pistons, etc.? I would hate to put $2K in and months, or a year later, it craps out for a related reason, or something that should have been taken care of now. Should we try for a crate engine new or used?
Thanks in advance for any advice offered. Too bad we just got finished paying for the darn thing.
