Original Owner Protection Plan is what BMW calls it. Essentially it's a Certifcation or CPO process and extended warranty for a car that someone already owns and is still in warranty.

Right now Saab won't allow dealers to Certify cars that they don't sell, so the only loop hole is when you buy out your lease a Saab dealer can CPO the car then as they are in fact selling it. For normal folks who bought their Saabs, they are forced to purchase an aftermarket warranty at a substantially higher price in comparison to what a Saab dealer pays for the CPO warranty from Saab.

I think the key is "Original Owner". By limiting the availibility of this warranty product to only the original owner, I think you cut down your exposure to claims.

Also note that a BMW CPO is inferior to a Saab CPO. A BMW CPO is a "named component" warranty, which has a specific list of parts that are covered in certain groups like engine, transmission, electrical, and so forth. Then within each group is a sub list of the specifically covered parts. A Saab CPO is bumper to bumper or what's known as "exclusionary". There's a short list of wear items and the radio and telemetrics (OnStar) are specifically excluded, but everything else is covered, no specific list other that the short list of wear items.

Also a BMW CPO has a $50 deductible for each covered repair whereas the Saab CPO is zero deductible.

I'm gonna' suggest a similar program to Saab. Makes a lot of sense.
