"Book Value" can be misleading. You don't know how many cars the averages are based on, or how many cars were sold in each of the categories. I guess the companies do the best they can...but I'd rather rely on the thought (like real estate) that the worth of something is how much someone will pay for it at any given time...or how much the seller will take for it at any given time. I had much more rely on condition, purpose of buying it and length of time I plan to keep the car than book value alone. If the deal don't meet your needs, don't buy it. If you would have given the guy 30% more than he was askng..pay him his asking price and both of you will be happy.
