Sorry this is overdue, but I thought I might provide a recap of the first, loosely organized, (kudos to Tom L for getting it going) Saab Run to the Glen. Perhaps this will solicit further interest from WNY Saabs (and others, we don't discriminate on location) for the 2nd Annual Run to the Glen!

We were hoping for one more car coming from Elmira, but it worked out nonetheless. All involved (I hope/think) really enjoyed the trip. It was intended to be a Drive from Geneva down to Watkins Glen for the day; it turned out to be the Run to the Glen with quite a few stops for some of Finger Lakes' finest wine tasting, which is how we might brand it next time. Lots of good twisties and open road to let the legs out. We travelled down the West side of Seneca Lake on 14A to the Glen, and returned up the East side of the Lake on 96A. Actually it turned out we then continued on the Thruway to exit 45, as we were all heading back to Rochester.
First stop was the Windmill Craft show which was quite a site. Looked through the various arts and crafts of the Amish and others, and then pressed on. We then made our first stop at Glenora, which was prime as always! Then followed Arcadian Estates Winery whose sweet wines and chocolate were far surpassed by their cheese! Next was Lakewood Vineyards which would be worth skipping on subsequent trips followed by a semi-detour to Castel Grisch Estate Winery.
After 4 wineries, we decided it was time to eat, and with the small group opted for a small place - Seneca Harbour Station - instead of the picnic lunched intended. We braved the cold and ate outside in an enclosed patio where we watched the waves crash in to the harbour, hung out next to a Bridge club, and the one working heater. Lunch was good and then we moved on to Watkins Glen where we walked some of the trails and took pictures of the various falls.
The last stop was Hazlitt that if you are going to Wine trip around Seneca Lake, you MUST stop here. An old barn, it has a rowdy, fun atmosphere that other wineries in the area can not touch. Then it was off to the races as Nigel and I tried to keep up with Tom as he sped off around a truck going who knows how fast. See Nigel's picture below (if it works) to show us playing catch-up (121 is what we topped out at, verified on my GPS, before we had to slow down).
Tom, Nigel, and I have pictures (although I haven't uploaded mine anywhere yet), and perhaps he will share them. Next time we would like a few more cars, although the small group allowed us to do more of what we wanted, not having to appease too many. It was great to meet people offline, and I am glad I made a few new friends! Turns out that it truly is a small world. Hope to meet some more people on the next run!
Thanks for reading!!
