I look at ebay as a way to try and get a good deal. Unfortunately, there are so many people on there now that the price always gets driven up. Weather its the sellers friends, or real bidders, the end question you need to ask yourself is; do you feel its a fair price to pay. If you were willing to bid the amount it is now being offered to you at, then you must see some redeeming value there.
For kayaks, if its possible, I would want to go see the item to make sure its exactly what is advertised.
So, if you like it, don't worry what other people bid, just pay what you felt was a fair price.

and two perception kayaks that I got off craigslist. If you are in an area where craigslist exists, check it out. I know Boston has a lot of boats for sale at good prices.
