Turbo lag used to be a much greater problem in the past, but with today's turbo technology it is not that much of a problem. Twin turbo charging, a la the porsche, bentley continental, old rx-7, etc., has pretty much cleared up that problem completely, with one turbo handling low speeds, one more geared to the higher engine speeds, and both working for max. boost. While superchargers can be on instantly, ironically, they do rob some power from the engine. They are usually larger than a turbo, and not as efficient. Mercedes Benz announced a while back that they will no longer be producing supercharged engines as they feel turbos are a better answer.
