My dealership in Seattle area are also appointment happy. It doesn't matter if SID says bring it in for a service, and/or CEL is on. (maybe these SID should say call your Saab dealer 'cause you ain't getting it serviced for at least 2 weeks especially if you want a loner...)
So yes, an oil change meant me getting up super early, get to the dealership and drop it off. Hang out there for at least 30mins for the shuttle, and depends on who is in it and where they need to go, I get droped off 40min later when distance wise should only take about 20min...
Now my car has over 60K and definitely out of warranty, I took my car in for 60K at a new found indy mechanic. This place accepts drop in for an oil change.
Some people change their own oil, but it takes so much time, recycle the old oil and you are only saving couple of dollars, so I like to pay for the oil change, but not wasting precious morning hours.
