A couple of more reasons to argue your point...
First, you can hear turbos "whistle" when they spool up...Tractor-Trailers are the best place to hear them...but you can even hear Saab's turbos if you listen carefully. A high-pitched sound is in the 2K hz range and above (way above) (This is a simplification...I know). Anyway, the fact that a turbo sounds like a whistle indicates that it's ~ 2K rpS= 120Krpm= 120000rpm.
Also, here's a link to How Stuff Works' turbo write-up...sighting a typical speed of 150000 rpm.
