I wonder if anybody has experience with this. For the past 2 1/2 months we have been battling a mite infestation. The source is unclear - we think probably a bird's nest next to our garage, as there was a dead baby bird nearby and no sign of the parents. We searched everywhere for another source and didn't find anything. They have infested every room in the house, the garage, and our cars. Insecticides seem to help in places like the car, but then they are back. We ended up getting symptoms from the insecticides, so we had our cars detailed, and in the house, carpets cleaned. The bird mites remained. We then had the house treated with ozone, which clearly decreased the numbers, but we still have a problem. We wonder if they are embedded in mattresses and pillows (so we got dust mite covers) and/or sofas. They attack primarily at night, and we can feel the bites. We're extremely sleep deprived at this point. We worked with an entomology expert at the local university, and he identified a couple of mites that we brought in from a spider web. They are microscopic, and he said either bird (avian) mite or fur mite. The sample was too dried out to distinguish. Other than that, he basically says we shouldn't be having this problem. Please help if you have knowledge of these critters.
