As long as you live in the US, why are you concerned about the value of the US dollar? Seems to me it affects only the price of imports if the USD changes in value. Unless you're concerned with a huge crash in value/rampant inflation/devaluation? Then it would make some sense to have some investments outside.

As a Canadian I have a certain % of my savings invested outside Canada. That % that is valued in US dollars unfortunately is doing poorly right now.... however, US sourced goods (primarily for me, Corvair parts!) are effectively dropping in price right now as the CDN $ flirts with the .84 US mark. A couple years ago we were at .62 US... it hurt every time I had to buy a US product. Now, we see more imports coming from the US to Canada.
