don't forget about your usernames and passwords if you store these (also under auto-complete).
So - Internet Options, "Delete Files" also "Clear History" then
Internet Options, Content tab, AutoComplete button, "Clear Forms" and "Clear Passwords." All assuming IE (I'm "coaching" from IE 5.5).
The downside is that you will lose history of anything you went to and liked way back when. Example, when you visited a news site many years ago, signed up, and indicated to remember password. Now you visit again, think you registered, but cookie is removed and no longer stored. Oh well.
Other than a complete "re-image" of a machine, the next best way to completely remove history is to "safe boot" your PC (assuming Windows) by using F8 when windows loading comes up. Then find the file for your user profile (example - mine is "elliott"). In there, under temp internet files and history folders, delete everything in the folder. The reason you need to be in Safe Mode is so some of the files do not "load" and you are able to delete them (no "file in use" warnings). The key file to delete, and reason to do this is the user.dat file. This stores names, etc. of all those cookies, and if you don't delete it, "technically" the "history" is still there.
Been doing something inappropriate, or simply Spring cleaning in the winter?! ;-) just kidding of course. Good luck!
Sean
