I recall Edmunds did a luxury cars comparison test in the 2001 model year. The 9-5 was amongst the 5 cars compared and came in last place, although competitive in most respects. One of the big reasons for the poor finish was because the Saab 9-5 MSRP was significantly higher than the MSRP of the other cars tested.
If we go back to that 2001 comparison results tally and adjust the vehicle cost ratings shown for the current cost of used versions of those 5 cars, I think the 9-5 would jump to 2nd place behind the Infiniti.
Dollar for dollar used Saabs are a steal for the features you get. I think Saab could be doing more to get that word out, helps Saab dealers and current owners of Saabs. Saab also has a huge opportunity right now to brand themselves in the market place as the brand of safest cars. Do that and reviewers grumbles won't matter so much.
