Doesn't sound too bad for Saab Posted by Mi-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Mi-Roger) on Fri, 10 Dec 2004 08:29:41 In Reply to: GM Europe - 12000 job cuts from Opel,Vauxhall, and Saab, PR, Fri, 10 Dec 2004 07:46:06 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The press reports read as if a total of 2,000 jobs will be eliminated through enhanced retirements or other "voluntary" programs in Sweden, Spain, and the UK combined.
The biggest reduction (10,000 jobs) will occur at Opel in Germany, but still no plant closings.
As a GM employee I worry that too many of these "kind hearted" solutions regarding excess capacity and employment levels may eventually lead to the demise of GM and all their vehicle brands. GM has far too much production capacity, both in the US and globally. These high fixed costs are proving very detrimental to the overall profits and longterm viability of the corporation.
