Just hit upon a wonderfully simple solution: remove the check valves near the nozzles! That way when the pump stops running, the fluid will run back to the reservoir where it seemingly has a harder time freezing.
Downside is the washers will take a fraction of a second longer to work, but I'd rather wait 1/2 second than have 'em not work at all.
