It depends on what you're looking for and how much you want to spend.

I've used 1&1 Internet and if you can deal with their spam e-mails and half-hearted hosting setup, it's fine. I don't enjoy it, but it's very inexpensive. For a personal website, they'd be fine.

I've also used Catalog.com, which is fine and inexpensive.

I've had a very good experience with Startlogic.com, which has given me very good speed connections, no problems, and an inexpensive rate plan. I'd say for a small/medium business, these guys are great.

I would say my very best experience has been with Inventhost.com, which, while expensive, is *VERY* much worth it -- they assign each account a personal contact person, so you always talk to the same person when you have a problem. Really, this is for businesses and those whose websites are critical parts of their productivity and therefore demand excellent service -- so if you're just looking for a personal web site host, these aren't the guys.

A lot of web hosts will promise you things like "1gb storage!" and "10gb data transfer!" but not actually ALLOCATE DEDICATED RESOURCES to you. I.e. you could potentially use that much bandwidth, but you aren't necessarily going to get it if there are 100 others on their shared server also requesting the same resources. I'm not sure if that's important to you, but I know inventhost actually *allocates* the resources they quote you.
