OK- I watched that too! Weird, is that a Saab-kind-of program?
Animals and pain. Yes, animals feel pain, but their tolerance differs by species (and size, body parts, etcetera). The lack of showing the pain serves two primary purposes: A recognized injured animal is likely to become dinner (for prey- like when Bass strike a floating lure, or when like-species kill each other); "pain dulling" chemicals are released for this purpose and differ greatly among animals. Even we humans recognize that women endure greater pain thresholds before they succumb to unconsciousness (birth, etc…). Cats provide a good example- they purr when they are happy (we still don’t exactly how they do it) and when they are wounded; the conclusion is that even is pain they are “happy.”
Your friend’s argument is mute in general - no fish and pain argument please! I don’t know.
