You said the bathroom is in the basement. Do you currently have one there and you are moving it, or are you adding one? Also, where does the main drain from the house exit, above the floor level of out the side of the foundation. Not knowing this, you might think about dumping everything into a sump tank and pumping it to the drain. That might prevent having to cut into the concrete floor.
As far a DIY, go for it. This summer i remodeled the bathroom, kitchen and install a new setptic system all by my self. I had never done any of this myself, and found no issues. Read a book, get a copy of the local plumbing code and as already advise avoid the "boxstore" and find a dim lite wood floor hardware store. As far a reading the local plumbing code, more and more communities are allowing APEX tubing in replacement of sweeted copper fittings. MUCH less work, less chance of buring down your house, and very very easy to install (this would be for your water supply).
Good luck and keep us up to speed on your progress
