I chose differently... (sorta long)

I also wanted a compact camera at least 4 megapixels. I chose the Pentax Optio 43WR. It's not quite as tiny as the smallest camera's but it's WATERPROOF! You can't dive with it but it can withstand some submersion. I wanted to feel confident taking it to the beach, camping, kayaking etc. It's small enough to fit in the pocket of my lifevest, or in my shorts pocket while hiking. The lens is all internal and does not protrude like most. It also uses 2 AA batteries which you can find everywhere in a pinch, but I use rechargeable NiMH for economy.
We were on Nantucket in September when the remnants of one of the hurricanes came thru. We had rented some bikes and got caught in horizontal rain 7 miles from our Bed and Breakfast. We were totally saturated and I have the pictures to prove it!
For years I video taped with a Sony TR101 with a Sony SPKTRA waterproof sport case. It was only good for a meter or so but I have the greatest videos in neck deep water in the North Carolina surf, cross country skiing, snow plowing in my antique Willys pickup, riding down a waterslide etc.
I wanted to be able to take it nearly anywhere. I've had it nearly a year and I'm completely satisfied.
regards
Peter
