FauxPaws is on the right track. I'm local born and bred so here's my $ .02... 1) for good to great b'fast in the Quarter try the "Clover Grill"
2) for great lunch try the "Pearl" or "Serio's" in the Central Biz District
3) for great to killer dinner try (in the Quarter) Irene's Cuisine, _Galatoire's_ (where real locals eat), or Dickie Brennan's Steakhouse (yumm!)...
In the Faubourg Marigny find "Feelings Cafe"... probably a cab ride and well worth the visit. In the CBD checkout "Cobalt". In Uptown try "Upperline".
For GREAT seafood from crabs to shrimp catch a cab out to West End Park and go to "Bruning's". Fabulous oysters, wonderful New Orleans seafood, great boiled crabs, crawfish, and shrimp. Very casual and very local.
The link below is to Tom Fitzmorris' food channel. Tom's a local food critic and has both feet firmly planted on the ground. Enjoy your visit and have fun!
