In Arizona, I rented a brand new Jeep Grand Cherokee, because it was only another $40 for five days and provided a better engine (which is needed in AZ -- you have to have power to run the AC) than other cars. I have to say that I was completely unimpressed, and there is no way I'd own this SUV. First, it was heavy -- everything it did was slow. It rode high and I felt I could tip it over merely by turning too quickly. It had no power (compare to my Viggen, that is). The brakes, while having nice modulation, seemed to be just OK. If it's like other Jeeps, you'll be eating front rotors. It had freaking horrible gas mileage, but it only had 1,100 miles on it. It had a funky rubber mat in the handholds to shut the door, and these were already coming out. It had a squeak in the rear that came and went. The "oh shit" handles were way, way too far forward to be useful. For such a large vehicle, it really didn't have much internal space. My Viggen's trunk is as large as the trunk in the Jeep. Even though you sat really high, the top of the roof came down and you felt very cramped inside of it. Even though I'm only 5'8", I couldn't get into the seat without hitting my head, and I put the seat as low as it could go. I couldn't figure out how to use a trip odometer, so I'm not sure how many miles I put on it. I'm sure this vehicle is expensive, but I missed ACC, daylight running lights, having everything turn off when I pull the key out, and a few other Saab things.
The good thing -- it had a menu so that you could adjust certain things like beep/no beep when locking, unlock just driver's door or all doors, etc. It also auto unlocked when you pulled the handle (athough my 9-3 does this when I pull the key). I was able to put it in first gear and cruise down a very steep mountain without hitting the brakes save for a few times.
In short, unless I needed to tow something, you'd have to pay me to take that vehicle.
