Thanks all to those who gave restaurants for my 2-day jaunt to New orleans last week, unfortunatley, the best laid plans...
First day, just in town from travel, asked the doorman at the Omni for a quick and dirty lunch -- cajun style. Sent us to the "gumbo shop" that looks like its been there a long time -- a good sign, but a touristy name. Had the crawfish etoufee that was so delicious we went back for lunch the next day and had the same, a bad habit of mine but if something's good, keep trying it.
thursday night was a reception for the convention so we ate finger food there, nothing particularly regional about shrimps and smoked salmon, but it was good.
Friday night, so many people said to go to "acme oyster" something we had to go, we were tired and it was close and we didn't want to stay dressed up. Front of the 30+ line b/c it was only two of us, sat at the bar. Well, it was certainly delicious, I never actually liked oysters (although I keep trying them for some reason) until then -- fresh tasting, firm not gooberish, and we had the crawfish boil (more of a fun thing than an actual meal) and deep fried soft-shell crab (nothing special but the hush puppies were great).
Next year I'm going to use those restaurants you folks gave me ... did the tourist thing this year (yup, even walked around town with my sportcoat with a nametag on it, just like a real conventioneer!).
