Having owned both, I can say they are both great cars. You're going to have trouble finding a manual tranny 240 though. They're pretty rare and much sought after, especially the later years. Both cars are tanks and will last quite a while. My 79 240 had 300,000 miles when I finally got rid of it six months ago. My 89 900 has 209,000 miles and still works perfectly, except no A/C. The Saab will definitely get better gas mileage though, at least from my experience. Parts are easier to find and cheap for the 240's. The classic 900 has a style that is hard to beat though. Once you've owned one they tend to grow on you too. If you go for the 900, make sure you get one that's been well taken care of. The 240's are pretty much indestructable, even with almost no care. In the end, it will come down to personal preference and what you can find in your area. I think they're both two of the best cars ever made.
