As some of my have read...several weeks ago my '97 9K anniversary got side swiped. Took out both doors on the driver side. The car have been repaired...fit, finish done perfectly. While the car was being repaired I drove a brand new '05 Maxima SE. I put 1,600 miles on it. The Maxima is smooth, quiet and the engine sounds really good. When the variable cams kick in it sounds like a ferrari. Thats the good news...the bad? The car does not track well. The front end seems to have a mind of its own. It torque steers in both directions. Handleing was OK...except for the front end. The brakes?? well they do stop the car. Excessive dive under hard braking. The ergonomics I do not care for at all! You can get in a wreck trying to work the radio. The seats are lousey...I am 6'2" and 220 lbs. The dash design promotes glare and accumulates a lot of dust. it returned about 19 MPG. But..it is a nice smooth car.
My car...with 100K on it Still feels very solid and stable at freeway speeds. More predictable in a wider veriety of driving conditions and considerably smoother. My Saab, modified, is about as fast as the Maxima....but does it all without the fussiness of the Max.
You may think I am crazy...but I would still take my car, with 100K on it over the new Max.
Bottom line the Maxima is a nice car...The 9000 Saab is a Machine.
