just until I bought what I wanted. Honestly, I didn't really think CR to be that helpful, and even went against the advice of CR when I bought my Bosch washer, dryer, and dishwasher (at the time, CR HATED Bosch). I also bought a refrigerator that wasn't too high on the CR scale, and I bought a ceramic-top cooktop (CR doesn't like these because they don't heat well and the ceramic can be broken). I've enjoyed my appliances over the years and think CR is basically worthless, but others swear by CR. My problem with CR is the way they rate things -- if you like the way the ratings are developed, and agree with what they mean, then you'll like what CR says. CR slammed the Bosch washer because there's no way to add bleach, but the Bosch heats the water so hot, you don't need bleach. My whites are white without bleach, but CR rated the Bosch low because of the bleach debacle. Similarly, they came up with a "100 point" list for refrigerators, but the vast majority of stuff on the list was useless to a single guy, like pull out shelves -- although my current refridge has these, I can say that I've honestly never used them.
