some products specifically state that is it meant for pre-emergent weeds. Meaning it kills the weeds before they have grown and helps prevents them from germinating. Some of this stuff is a waste of money once you have weeds established.
Living in Florida I fight weeds constantly. The best course of action is:
1. not to overwater your lawn. Water only twice a week and make sure you put down at least 3/4" of water. Watering more frequently and getting less water into the soil causes the weeds to grow and not the grass.
2. cut your grass to the correct height for the type of grass you have. I have a bahia lawn and the cutting height is 4-5 inches. This allows the grass to grow thicker and choke out the weeds.
3. pull out weeds. Make sure to get the root.
