Yeah nowadays at the try outs, if you have a slight cough they let you off the hook. All the cut backs of money have made them pull back on everything and close down regiments all over Sweden.
Back then, you were seen as lesser of a man if they rejected you from the mandatory military service and it could actually affect your chances of getting employed since, "it must be something wrong with you if you haven't done the military".
Now, the only thing an employer wants to know is if you are going to do it or if you are releived. If you say that , yes I'm going in 1 year from now the employer might skip you and take one of the rejected ones since he know that at least this guy won't disappear a year from now. Times they are a changing (to quote Bob Dylan).
The (lumpar) stories are plenty but I can tell you that you don't want to stand at 100 meters with just a "thick coat" on and take the fire from a m/45B. They are still strong enough to splinter the wood frame of the target at that range.
But it is a close up trench weapon and not meant to be used for long range shooting.
The stories are more from competitive heckle from the "real guys" using the AK4. Ah, you guys can't even hit the side of a barn 10' away with that spray gun (and alike).
