I noticed from that history article that SAAB did the Talladega track run in 1986 and then again in 1996. Do you think they're planning on doing it again next year?
If so, I suggest they run both their new 2.8V6 engine and their Sweden-only 85%ethanol/15%gasoline (E85) engine to show off new technologies. In addition to the number of miles travelled and average speed, I'd be interested to read a report on their average gas mileage (or "E85" mileage...). Might as well publicize SAAB's strengths!
The Talladega thing sounds a lot like American Le Mans to me. Could SAAB comptete in Le Mans? Is there something that precludes SAAB from running factory-stock cars in Le Mans? Could you imagine SAAB's driver jumping out of his car at the end of the race and running over to say Audi's driver to ask what kind of mileage the Audi got?
