Repainting wheels - baking the finish? Posted by Bill Homer [Email] (#3427) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Bill Homer) on Tue, 26 Apr 2005 11:50:18 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I picked up some (mostly) nice Aero wheels for my 9000, but one of them is scraped on the "spokes", requiring refinishing. I have found a few cars with silver paint which is very close (Ford, Toyota, Honda, MB), I intend to sand/fill/primer/paint the wheel myself using spraycan touchup paint, but am concerned that the finish will be too soft, especially compared to the original - the wheels live in a very tough environment.
My idea is to bake the wheels somehow to toughen up the finish. Is this a good idea? Any good methods for this, i.e. leave in the sun, quartz-halogen work lamp, the electric kitchen oven (when wife is out of town!), etc? If oven, what temp (or broil?) and how long?
