It talks about GM needing a make-over and not being able to meet its 30% domestic market share goal this year without some major changes. The interesting part to me was a chart showing inventories and sales of GM models. The 9-5 takes the biggest days supply inventory of all GM models. 216 days worth of inventory! That, from today, is enough cars to keep dealers in inventory until November 30th! They then talked about how there is a face lift scheduled for the 9-5 in 2006, and how that is too long from now as well as how trying to get 9 years out of a car in the luxury segment is also too long. I have to agree with alot of their comments on the 9-5, in comparison to other cars in the segment it is supposed to compete in, the 9-5 already shows its age. The only thing I disagree with is that 9 year is a perfect lifespan for a car design, except that Saab cycles its cars during odd years in comparison with Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Lexus, and Infinity. All of these brands updated their 9-5 competitors roughly in the last 2 years, yet the 9-5 line got its last "update" if you call it that in 2002. I just have one thing to say to Saab...Innovate! Update! Differentiate! We love our cars and want to be to purchase new ones in the future, please don't go the way of the oldsmobile. Anyways what do other people think?
