I would highly advise you stay away from doing it yourself. You'll void warranty and almost certainly break your iPod for good. Things are very very packed in there and difficult to get at. Even replacing the battery is something best left to pros. You also would probably need to upgrade the firmware on the drive to something that works with iPods (not sure about that, just riffing here).

Also, the drives in the iPods are 1.8" not 2.5" and I'm not sure even the 80GB 1.8" drives are available OEM to consumers yet, nor the 60GB ones.

If you do want an upgrade from a pro, visit http://techrestore.com/xcart/home.php?cat=280 and see what they have. They're pricey but they'll at least do it right.
