A rear wheel drive will tear up the lawn when turning unless it has a clutch or differencial. A diff. (unless a limited slip) will reduce the pulling force as the wheel that slips will get all the power. A front wheel drive can have wheels on a solid common axel as this can be lifted when turning. The disadvantage with frontwheel drive is the same as with the SAAB poor grip when going up steep slopes.
Why not consider a 2 wheel Reel Mower (with small rear rollers)? On a well kept lawn they cut much better than the rotor mower and are easier to control.
