I have intermitant stalling problems with my 140 hp Mercruiser (I also have 3 C900 Saabs in various states of repair, which I take as licence to post here; besides, its an inline 4 cyl GM and much simpler than anything with wheels, so surely someone will have a clue).

Motor runs fine, mostly, but after > 1 hr on the water (and thus well after reaching normal operating temp) it fails to maintain high (4k) rpms. I'll be cruising along at a steady pace and for no good reason the motor cuts out. Moving the throttle to lower rpms allows steady operation, and once done, I can open it up again to enjoy a short (1 min?) period of high rpm before it bogs down again. Note that it doesn't die, it just won't go fast for long.

Any ideas? TIA... Arabiflora
