...that this is about in-line with previously-announced GM job cuts. It works out to something like 10K jobs a year.
There were also previously-announced job cuts in Europe, but this latest announcement pretty much focuses on North American job cuts and factory closures.
The analyst was also pointing out that GM in recent years has been getting a huge amount of its revenue comes from truck-based large SUVs whose sales were down something like 15% in May alone. Their car offerings are pretty unsatifactory and they're late to jump into the hybrid market.
Hope is in sight though. Come January, there are going to be some better car offerings and they're supposed to also start selling a hybrid around that time.
I think that they'll pull through. If Pontiac can actually come up with a car I want (the turbocharged version of the Solstice) I guess anything's possible!
