Out of alignment (excessive toe-in)? Posted by Bill Homer [Email] (#3427) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Bill Homer) on Wed, 15 Jun 2005 11:41:05 In Reply to: tires, wpkt2002, Wed, 15 Jun 2005 07:49:23 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
In addition to the other comments on front wheel drive being hard on tires, it is possible that your car is out of alignment, which dramatically increases wear on the front tires. Note that SAABs (and any other car that I have come across) have a small amount of "toe-in" as their proper front alignment spec; while this is only a fraction of a degree, it produces the equivalent of a sideways scuff on the tires equivalent to some tens of feet (forgot the number) per mile driven. If the car is out of spec, this effect is multiplied. When was the last time you had the alignment checked?
