I just want to take a minute and standup for fellow snowmobile enthusiasts and try to help others see the steps we are taking to improve...I understand how many people view sleds as the stinky and polluting machines of the early years.
However, I just want to point out that the snowmobile industry is under heavy pressure to meet higher EPA emissions standards. Starting in model year 2006, these regulations will reduce fleet-wide hydrocarbons (HC) and carbon monoxide (CO) snowmobile emissions by 30 percent, by 50 percent by 2010, and by 70 percent by 2012.
Almost all of Yamaha’s 2006 models are 4-strokes and already meet the 2010 emissions standards. Also, Bombardier (Ski-Doo) has a 2-stroke 2-TEC Semi-Direct Injection 600 engine that reduces emissions by as much as 50 percent and fuel economy by as much as 25 percent.
Obviously, these changes are not going to happen overnight. Just please understand that many snowmobile riders are very conscious of the environment and are trying to take steps to “clean-up” their act!!!!!
Thanks,
Brian
