usually, a 220/230 device will run on 110, but draw twice the current, this becomes a problem as you approach the capacity of the electrical plug or the breaker size, so these manufacturers go to a 220/230v device, at half the amperage.
if you have modern electrical service, every other breaker in your breaker box, as you go down, vertically, alternates from which "leg" the power comes from....houses have 220v service, 2 hot wires, plus a neutral. So, to make this thing work, you need to wire up a 220v outlet, which can be a twist lock, or a standard 3 prong, but with one of the terminals flat....
a regular 110 looks like this | | and a 220 looks like - |
plus the ground.
