The main line media started reporting more shark attacks right after PETA let out some "information" that sharks were attacking people more because of human polution and exploitation of the seas. This was about 3 to 4 years ago. I remember this because there was quite a lot of media bombardment over some PETA billboards that were put up somewhere in the south that caused quite a contreversy (sp). After that PETA quoted some "scientist" as saying that sharks were going to feed closer to human habitat because of our presence there to justify thier nutty billboards and the media picked up on it and have been reporting shark bites and attacks ever since.
