You are fortunate to have relatives to visit - you will find them reserved (at least at first) but great hosts. My line sort of died out after grandpa came over , following after his brother. Two sisters stayed home, one died in late teens, one never married, so no really close relatives to vist. I second the suggestion to visit Stockholm - you can purchase a tourist card that will get you into all of the museums and one for the public transportation as well - most speak english, so there is really no languague barrier. A short 40 km from Stockholm is Uppsala, home to one of the oldest universities in sweden - a great town to visit for a day, stop at Ofandahls for coffee and and a sweet! On my last visit (4 years ago) the national museum had an exhibit of Viking gold and silver treasures, well worth seeing. The Vassa museum, mentioned already, is spectacular. Make sure you go to Skansen, the outdoor museum with restored buildign s from throughout Sweden's history. And! Make sure you spend lots of time in Gamlastan (old town) in Stockholm, what a magical place! Stop by Gamla Stan's Brewery they make just one type of beer, Färsköl or "fresh beer." The beer and fresh (caught just that morning!)shrimp make a great meal. If you have time to take a side trip by train to Oslo, you can visit many museums but the most spectacular is the Viking ship Museum, a spiritual experience akin to driving a Saab 900T. Take a look at some pictures from my web site,
Ha det bra!
