Just because you can get coverage under your auot policy doesn't necessarily mean that you will benefit from doing so. If you have a $200 deductible and $300-350 in damage, I'd eat the difference rather than make a claim that could cause your rates to go up (and remember when you apply for insurance with another company they will almost always be able to see your claim history with prior companies -- it's a little know insurance industry secret).

So before you make a claim, make sure that its worth it considering all factors. That's why most people would benefit from high deductibles ($500 or $1000). The likelihood is you'll never need to make a claim, and even if you do have to eat a $1000 deductible someday, you will have save more than that in premium over the years.
