A bad day for someone at work....... Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Tue, 2 Aug 2005 16:42:26 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
One of GM's Executives/Managers had a very bad day at work. At lunchtime they were driving a company issued Corvette around the perimeter drive encircling our office building and parking lots. They lost control of the car, struck and jumped a tall concrete curb, spun in the grassy lawn, and side-swiped a 6-inch maple tree.
The entire passenger side of the car is mangled and the hood is crunched. Although GM's managers receive a very lucrative car allowance plan (unlimited use of a new car, insurance, unlimited fuel, all for less than $200 per month, per rumors) there is also a big GOTCHA. They are personally responsible for any damage caused by carelessness or stupidity, such as puncturing a seat cushion with a ski pole, or wrapping a 'Vette around a tree while showing off at lunch.
Considering this car might be totaled, someone may be working for free for the next 6 months. Imagine telling that news to your spouse or mortgage company! They will probably also lose all car plan privileges, maybe for 2 years, maybe for life.
To add further insult to injury, by some strange fluke this perimeter roadway serving our parking lots is a city street. The car could not be moved until the local Police arrived, investigated, and issued a ticket.
This roadway is posted with a 30mph speed limit. I have no idea how fast the 'Vette was being driven, but a friend who used to own a corvette once told me that exit ramps and other tight roadway curves could be safely negotiated in a 'Vette at twice the posted speed plus 10mph.
Clearly not a good day for someone.
